I have reported that homosexuals have been misunderstood and mistreated for centuries. They have been condemned and rejected by clergy and society generally. They were also sent in wrong directions by both heterosexual psychiatrists and gay activists. Both saw homosexuality through the lens of adult sexuality and failed to consider the importance of unmet developmental childhood relational and identity needs.

Psychiatrists believed heterosexual marriage and elimination of gay’s fear and aversion to women would cure them.

Activists waged successful campaigns to eliminate negative sanctions against same-sex sexuality. These have unfortunately weakened families and changed societal values and standards previously existent for millennia. They seek the normalization of homosexuality claiming it is an inconsequential variant of nature.

In her text, Vamps and Tramps, prominent lesbian social critic and activist, Camille Paglia, did not agree with this position. She wrote:

Homosexuality is not “normal.” On the contrary, it is a challenge to the norm; therein rests its eternally revolutionary character…. Nature exists, whether academics like it or not. And in nature, procreation is the single, relentless rule. That is the norm. Our sexual bodies were designed for reproduction.…Given the intense hormonal surge of puberty, the total absence of adult heterosexual desire is neither normal nor natural.

In 1968, Franklin Kameny, a prominent activist, wanted gays to cease being viewed as ill or needful. Motivated by the “Black is Beautiful” mantra, he encouraged homosexuals to adopt the affirmation: “Gay is Good.” While many gays adjust and learn to value their compulsive erotic draw to other men, not all welcome their inversion or accept same-sex sexuality as simply a variant of nature.
