    POST 83

    Hello again,

People are generally free to choose one thing or another. They are responsible for their choices and, in this sense, are agents representing themselves. The law of the harvest teaches that what is reaped depends on what is sown, and most strive for what is thought to be genuine or true. Below is quoted the first and last verses of a great hymn, written by John Jaques, entitled “Oh Say, What Is Truth?”

    Oh say,  what is truth?

Tis the fairest gem that the riches of worlds can produce,

And priceless the value of truth will be when

    The proud monarchs costliest diadem

Is counted but dross and refuse.

    Then say, what is truth?

Tis the last and the first

For the limits of time it steps o’er.

Tho the heavens depart and the earth’s fountains burst,

Truth, the sum of existence, will weather the worst,

    Eternal, unchanged, ever more.

Truth is good because it works. It is reliable in its production. Scientists have proven the existence of universal physical laws. There are elements and  relationships, interactions which always bring forth the same results. Likewise, there are spiritual truths as equally ever-present and lawfully related.  It is likely that ties exist between physical and spiritual realities.

Some people have experiences that cause them to become confused and unable to see life correctly. Those who both believe and love a lie and will ultimately inherit the results of misdirected choices. Men captivated by myths will certainly not make significant progress in particular areas of their lives. It is crazy, but feasible, for one to repeatedly hit his thumb with a hammer while moaning, “It hurts …so good.” Some students of human relations have referred to the terms “masochism” and “compulsion” in consideration of same-sex sexuality.

The secular study of homosexuality has failed to understand the lawful dynamics of homosexuality well enough to successfully assist gay men who want to shed their same-sex inclinations. Surely, to be truly understood, both the evolution of homosexuality and care for those desiring change must be considered from spiritual as well as physical perspectives. Carl Jung, one of the great original thinkers who sought to understand human behavior, wrote: “It is imperative that each person have a reference point outside the self, beyond the limitations of human consciousness. Traditionally this reference point has been given the name of God.” Unfortunately, gays, many of whom have not known affirming relationships with their fathers, turn from God when they find themselves unable to “pray the gay away.”  Truth is, that same sex attraction is a blessing. It signals the gender where gays’ growth and healing can and needs to occur. Lawfully, the same-sex draw will not cease. Its excellence must be recognized and the attraction responded to correctly —socially and emotionally rather than erotically. Iron sharpens iron, and when gay and straight men share genuine brotherly love, they are likely to find a welding that brings  growth and fulfillment to both.
