In his excellent text, Virtually Normal, prominent gay author, Andrew Sullivan, wrote of how disturbing it was when men realize and first acknowledged to themselves that they are same sex attracted. Historically, gay youth were forced by rampant homophobia to guard against acknowledging their unwanted orientation or, asking for help. They were exiled from society and left to whatever virtue possible in dealing with the inclinations they were unable to shed. Summarily. I have suggested that homosexuality has been misunderstood and responded to inappropriately by both straights and gays. In the past, needful men have been mistreated by society generally, and by the clergy, those who should have been first to intervene and assist them. And they were seriously harmed over time by psychiatrists who ignorantly sent them on wild goose chases. They have also been harmed by taking up activist, Frank Kamany’s anger-inspired affirmation that “Gay is good and activists’ well-intentioned false messages that followed. Sadly, important ideas often get lost and forgotten over time. Useful concepts can be drowned out by louder, less relevant and useful voices. I recommend one small but profoundly insightful text concerning the homosexual psyche. If gay and straight men are seriously committed to gaining a better understanding of the origin and dynamics of homosexuality, they should obtain a copy and study it carefully. Read it a sufficient number of times to grasp the subtle but profound nuances which, at first, may appear as redundancies. The book is by psychologist, Elizabeth R.  Moberly, and is entitled Homosexuality: A New Christian Ethic.
