Hello again,
In some ways, to be homosexual feels like being from a different world. When gays state that being same-sex attracted and erotically responsive to males is their nature, this is indeed true. The unusual draw to others of their gender develops because of their different experiences during a critical period of physical, social, and psychological development. It is as “natural” or reflexive for them to be erotically responsive to others of their own gender as it is for men who grew up differently to be drawn to females.
Homosexual responsiveness is seated in early childhood and is generated far less by genes and hormones, than a biology of learning. Stimuli from experiences are biologically preserved in neuronal networks in the brain. By the time these boys and men clearly recognize the specificity and firmness of their same-sex attractions, they are beyond that period of chumship socialization when belonging and mutual affirmation occurred rather automatically. They missed that critical phase of mutuality and inclusion prior to sexual awakening. In other words, those who become gay have been sexualized before being appropriately socialized among their peers. Precocious sexuality is a primary feature of those boys’ lives who become gay.
